It's Graduation Season - And Your English Language GCSE Still Matters!
Maybe some of you have older children or have relatives or friend's children who are all over social media with your/their children's graduation photos? It is well and truly 'graduation season' folks! In fact, my first born is one of those children cluttering up social media. Guilty as charged.
Every Path Needs English Language
Your child may have no desire to go to university, or simply may not be that academic, and that's all good - there's room for everyone in this world. Heaven knows, I never thought it would be me and here I am, enjoying working with young people as an English teacher π©π©π«!
Whatever category your child fits into now may stay that way or it may change. But here's the thing: whatever category your child fits into, that English Language qualification is a MUST for them to progress onto the next steps in their education.
Study Tips That Actually Work
I've been creating some very achievable 'GCSE English Language Summer Study Tips' over on my Instagram and Facebook pages and I happen to think they're pretty great! Tips like 'Use Netflix as a study tool' and 'Your phone is a writing toolkit!' - what's not to love?
Surely these are better tips than 'sit down in your room and read Charles Dickens' "Hard Times" underlining any vocabulary you don't understand and making a list'? Too right!
Modern Learning for Modern Students
The beauty of these approaches is that they meet students where they are. We're living in a digital age, so why not embrace the tools that young people are already using? That smartphone in their pocket? It's not just for TikTok - it can be a powerful writing and research tool. That Netflix subscription? It's not just entertainment - it's a gateway to understanding narrative structure, character development, and language use.
