January Reflections: A Buzzing Start to 2026
January has been an absolute whirlwind at Achieve English, and I couldn't be happier about it.
My tutees have come back all guns blazing, petrol in their tanks and ready to tackle the new term head-on. Witnessing their enthusiasm, hard work, and dedication has been incredibly rewarding. There's a real buzz in the air, and it's reminded me exactly why I love what I do.
Growing and Evolving
When I reflect on where I was this time last year, it's quite remarkable how much has changed. Twelve months ago, I was working exclusively with Year 11 students. Now? I've got Year 8s, 9s, 10s, and 11s all coming through my door! Each year group brings its own diverse energy to our sessions, and I'm absolutely loving it.
The 1:1 dynamic I'm currently experiencing makes a massive difference compared to the 10-18 students I teach online in my regular teaching job. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy both, but there's something special about that focused, personalised attention where I can really tailor each session to exactly what that individual student needs.
What Success Really Looks Like
I've had some brilliant feedback from my tutees recently, which always warms my heart. But honestly? I'm happy if they simply smile during our sessions and we can have a giggle together. When students are happy and relaxed, their confidence levels soar, and that's when the real learning happens.
It really is a privilege to work with these amazing young people. I genuinely enjoy each and every one of our sessions.
Celebrating Every Victory
I had a lovely tutee start with me back in October, desperate to get a pass in his November resit. He'd missed out on his Level 4 by just a few marks. After 10 sessions together, he sat his exam again and missed out on a Level 5 by only a few marks. While he didn't quite reach that Level 5, he's absolutely delighted that he can now carry on with his BTEC and forget about having to take English again. That's what I call progress worth celebrating.
Mock Season Is Upon Us
For many Year 11s, mocks are taking place right now. If that's you, remember to pace yourselves. These exams are simply there to show you what you need to tighten up on before the real thing and how you can improve. Take a balanced approach to your studying, look after yourselves, and use this as the learning opportunity it's meant to be.
Here's to a fantastic January and an even better year ahead at Achieve English!
Keep smiling, keep working hard, and remember: you've got this.
I love hearing how you’re getting and how much you and your tutees get from their sessions
